Ayurvedic Treatment for Anaplastic Ependymoma

Anaplastic Ependymoma

ABOUT ANAPLASTIC EPENDYMOMA

Anaplastic Ependymoma is a rare form of cancer which is characterized by a rapid multiplication of ependymal cells in the central nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord. The ependymal cells which multiply very quickly in Anaplastic Ependymoma are the cells which comprise the ventricles of the brain and the middle part of the spinal cord.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Anaplastic Ependymoma is categorized as 'Grade III Ependymoma.' This particular type of tumor is generally much faster-growing and malignant in comparison to other tumors like Myxopapillary Ependymoma (MPE) which usually occurs in the lower part of the spinal column, and Subependymoma which mostly occurs close to a ventricle.

People of all age-groups can be affected by Ependymomas, though the risk is higher for older adults and children. When the tumor occurs in older adults, it is mostly located in the spinal cord; and when the tumor occurs in children, it is usually located in the brain.

CAUSES / RISK FACTORS OF ANAPLASTIC EPENDYMOMA

The precise reason for the occurrence of Anaplastic Ependymoma is not yet known. However, medical practitioners believe that the rapid multiplication of ependymal cells in these tumors is a result of mutations (changes) in certain genes; specifically, genetic conditions like Turcot syndrome, Hippel-Lindau disease, or neurofibromatosis.

Besides genetic conditions, some other risk factors of linked to Anaplastic Ependymoma are:

  • Exposure to infections, viruses, and allergens
