Eosinophilia | Treatment of EosinophiliaEosinophilia is a chronic disorder and it results from excessive production of a particular type of white blood cells known as 'eosinophils'. Eosinophils are produced in the bone marrow which helps the body fight infection from parasitic organisms. They contain proteins that help the body fight infection from parasitic organisms. It has been estimated that about 5-10% of white blood cells constitute eosinophils. Higher count indicates actual progressing eosinophilia that can cause significant health diseases. The proteins present in eosinophils can damage the body. In eosinophilic pneumonia, a high number of eosinophils are produced in the lungs. There are some other disorders that can cause eosinophilia and they may range from simple hay fever to life threatening tumor. Scientific research has indicated the most common factors cause for eosinophilia as parasitic infections, allergic conditions such as asthma and certain types of drug reactions. Other causes include lung diseases, inflammation of blood vessels, certain malignant tumors, antibody deficiencies and skin diseases. Eosinophilia in children is more difficult to diagnose as compared to adults. Symptoms of eosinophilia may include frequent wheezing, breathlessness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, cough and rashes. Some common indicators of eosinophilia are frequent infections, abscesses, pneumonia, mouth sores, weight loss, night sweats, enlargement of lymph nodes, skin rashes etc. Common risk factors include allergic rhinitis, hay fever, allergy to foods, dermatitis, parasitic infection, liver damage, eczema etc. Treatment for eosinophilia is based on the causal factors i.e. an allergy, a medicine reaction or a parasitic infection. Allergic and connective tissue disorders may be treated with the help of corticosteroids. But most parasitic and fungal infections can be worsened by the use of steroids. Steroid responsiveness should be well evaluated, before starting the treatment for eosinophilia. As part of treatment, many physicians may also carry out detailed examination of skin, eyes, brain, lymph nodes, heart, liver, spleen, intestine, bone and nervous system. The cost factors are high and sometimes out of reach of the common people. Ayurveda considers nature to be rich in herbs and there herbs can cure naturally, without any side-effects.
