Symptoms of chronic gastritis include loss of appetite, headaches, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, a constant feeling of giddiness etc. Sometimes it may cause even bleeding in stools. Overeating has also been linked as one of the most common causes of chronic gastritis. Bacterial and viral infections, intolerance to certain medicines for high blood pressure, swallowing of acids and alkalis and stress can also lead to chronic gastritis. Treatment of chronic gastritis depends on the specific cause and some of the causes may disappear over time. Medications known to cause chronic gastritis should be discontinued. Medications to neutralize stomach acid or decrease its production will eliminate the symptoms and promote healing. Specific antibiotics are used to treat chronic gastritis caused by bacterial infection.

A majority of patients are almost concerned about the treatment of chronic gastritis. Medical treatment started is tentative and it is necessary to adjust the basis of treatment response. A lot of patients ill for a long time due to factors such as tension, anxiety or depression and other mental disorders, need psychological treatment and at the same time appropriate anti-psychotropic drugs.

Food to avoid for chronic gastritis include spicy and sour food, food containing much oils and fats, citrus fruits like lime and oranges and food that causes acids and toxins in the body to build up. Also, avoid the use of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Consumption of alcohol should be totally avoided and intake of salt in the food should also be reduced. The most common food recommended for chronic gastritis patient may include green vegetables and fresh ripened fruits. Milk helps reducing pain due to ulcers and drinking a lot of water helps keeping the body hydrated and also flushes out the micro-organisms and bacteria that cause chronic gastritis. Rice boiled in water along with vegetables is the best option for diet either in lunch or dinner.

Ayurvedic remedies for treating chronic gastritis are finding great importance among increasing number of people. The natural ingredients of ayurvedic herbs have a very positive impact on the health of the body. Amla or Indian gooseberry is a useful natural herb for curing chronic gastritis. It helps in getting rid of symptoms like vomiting and nausea etc.

According to the Ayurvedic system of classification, the amla fruit has the following properties:

  • Rasa (taste): sour, astringent are dominant
  • Veerya (nature): cooling
  • Vipaka (taste developed through digestion): sweet
  • Guna (qualities): light, dry
  • Doshas (effect on humors): pacifies all three doshas i.e. vata, kapha, pitta and especially effective for pitta

Because of its cooling nature, amla is a common ingredient in treatments for a burning sensation like chronic gastritis as these are manifestations of pitta (fire) agitation.

Benefits of Amla

Charak Smahita is an ancient ayurvedic medicine text -500 BC and Amla is perhaps the most often mentioned herb in that book. It can be used in almost every other health concern. Now a days it has rather wider spectrum of uses as there are more and more chemicals, pollutants, stress we are exposed to everyday.

Amla grows in nature in Indian subcontinent and our amla fruits are all organic growing in our Amla fruit farms located away from city pollution. All the herbal supplements made from amla are giving excellent results because we do not procure amla fruits from the market but prefer fresh amla fruits directly from the trees! The fruit is has the highest content of vitamin C of any natural occurring substances in nature. Amla is most useful treatment of ulcers and hyperacidity.

Vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps squelch free radical molecules, is low in the stomach juice of people with chronic gastritis. This is the reason, some of the vitamin C rich fruits, such as amla, are established to be helpful in chronic gastritis.
